I made these flashcards for the Kindergarten Teachers in my district to use during daily Calendar Time.
The Common Core Standard for Kindergarten in the area of Geometry states: "Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes, and describe the relative positions of these objects using terms such as above, below, besides, in front of, behind, and next to."
I envision the teachers focusing on one positional word each day during the month of May. Each student would have a small cardboard box, and a small pompom in a plastic bag. When the teacher presents the positional word of the day, the students would use their box and pompom to illustrate the meaning of the word. Next, the teacher would review words already discussed and the students would show their meaning using the box and pompom.
