The Calendar Game

Here is my new game that I would be delighted to share with you.

As students play this game they will practice orally saying the name of the day of the week and the ordinal number for that date.  For example: "Today is Thursday. It is the eighteenth day of the month.

I created these Math Talk Cards (as suggested by Debbie Diller's book, Math Stations) to assist the students as they play the game. To save paper as you print it, I made two math talk cards per page.

Write a comment and let me know it you like it. Of course, Click Here to obtain a copy of the game from my Google Documents.

2-D Dominoes and Flashcards that meet Common Core Standards

Consider reviewing your daily Calendar activities and updating them to reflect the new Kindergarten Common Core Standards. Use the set of flashcards of the 2-dimensional shapes-square, rectangle, circle, hexagon and triangle to develop an anchor chart that lists "What Our Class Noticed About These Flat Shapes". The anchor chart would then grow with student information about what they are noticing about the shapes as they do activities during center, calendar, or math instructional time.

The "math talk" card (suggested by Debbie  Diller in her book "Math Work Stations") could be used while the students play the game to ensure that a rich vocabulary is being used while playing the game.
The dominoes, which use the same images as the flashcards,  could then be used as a follow-up practice activity at the end of the month as a summarizing activity. The domino game could be played in whole group with groups of 2 or 4 students, OR be placed in a math center for small groups of two or four children. There are 5 pages or dominoes or 40 dominoes.

Flashcards are in English and Spanish

Only one more day of school until spring holiday. Then I get to organize my home office and do our families' Tax Return.(the only time during the year that I don't like math)........... sigh.

Annie's Bunnies Love to "ADD TO" on the Grass-lined Ten Frame

Here's a fun way to get your students adding sums up to 5 with Annie's Bunnies and the grass-lined ten frame that I created for you.
I placed two ten-frames on a page so you could cut them apart and save paper. They would be darling printed in color and laminated for the students to use each day during Daily Calendar Time. I also created a set of problems that follow a format suggested by the Common  Core Standards, and can be used with the ten frame.

One problem could be acted out each day. There is also a writing page that could be used for the students to create their own story.

3-D Dominoes and Flashcards that Meet the Common Core Geometry Standards

Consider reviewing your daily Calendar activities and updating them to reflect the new Kindergarten Common Core Standards. Use the set of flashcards of the 3-dimensional shapes-cube, cone, cylinder, and sphere to develop an anchor chart that lists "What Our Class Noticed About These Solid Shapes". Each week feature a different 3-dimensional shape and add it to the Calendar Bulletin Board Area (or Smartboard Calendar). The anchor chart would then grow with student information about what they are noticing about the shapes as they do activities during center, calendar or math instructional time.

The "math talk" card (suggested by Debbie  Diller in her book "Math Work Stations") could be used while the students play the game to ensure that a rich vocabulary is being used while playing the game.
