The teacher lays down on the floor with an unrolled tape register paper strip under her body. The students place a mark at the bottom of her feet and the top of her head. The teacher moves and the students then cut the register tape at the marked measurements. Since this activity was completed in a Kindergarten classroom, non standard measuring items were used to calculate the final lengths.
A great discussion took place when the teacher measured all different lengths because of all the different non standard measurement tools that were used. They even created a display of all the different strips with the different measurement amounts written on each tape. It was awesome.
Fun and learning was had by ALL!
